![]() Even the last great war film prior to the new era, When Trumpets Fade, pales in comparison to something like The Lost Battalion in terms of visual impact and dramatic realism. That said, however, the bar on war films was raised significantly by Saving Private Ryan and the subsequent Tom Hanks produced Band of Brothers. I haven’t studied books on the planes, and tanks, and guns and so those things I don’t really notice. ![]() It would behoove you to not concern yourself with the movie.Unlike some people, I’m a lot more forgiving about inaccuracies in war films. I understand that your channel is apolitical however, the film represents an attempt by the Russian government to shape history in a manner that makes it congruent with their viciously nationalistic and authoritarian policies. Additionally, the Russian cultural minister has stated that anyone who questions the veracity of the myth is, “dirty scum.” The goverment fired a state employed historian who pointed out the discrepancies between the myth and historical fact and has pressured academia to stay silent on the matter. ![]() However, the Russian Government has actively tried to suppress the record. It was not 28 men that halted the German armored thrust outside of Moscow but rather the entirety of the division. The problem with Panfilov’s 28 is the involvement of the Russian Government.Īs stated earlier in this comment, the film is based on a historical falsehood. This does not, and should not, dissuade movie goers from seeing those types of films. Films that are based on true stories are often so far removed from the historical record of the events or people they portray that the film should be considered pure fiction. This normally would not be an issue, hollywood war films are often not true. The movie is based off of a soviet myth that was initially propagated to bolster soviet minority group’s support for the war. ![]()
